White kitchens are making a comeback; not that they ever went out of out style, but they are gaining their popularity back. Splashed across the pages of home magazines are images of sunny, white, open kitchens. Hollywood is making it a point to portray clean white kitchens in movies such as Sex and the City and Something’s Gotta Give. So with all the fuss now, why did white kitchens ever have a bad rap?

For one thing, many consumers are under the impression that white cabinets tend to require a lot more cleaning. The truth is, white may show the dirt more easily, but all cabinets should be cleaned about the same whether their white or dark cherry. Also, years ago, the white paint that was used to finish cabinets was not very durable or efficient, and it didn’t hold up too well. Colors began to look mismatched and even acquired some yellow tints, but that was then and this is now!

Another advancement in cabinetry has been the use of thermofoil. Thermofoil cabinetry allows you to reap the benefits of a white kitchen without the disadvantages of using paint. No matter how durable paint is, it is susceptible to nicks and scratches. Thermofoil creates a uniformed, durable look.

A white kitchen can make even the dimmest light room shine. With the use of white cabinetry, white countertops, and a light wall, you can create an outdoor feeling inside. With all the light that you are creating with the use of white materials within your home, you may even be able to shut off some of your lights and cut back on the electric bill. With a clean feel, a bright look, and a sense of openness you’ll find yourself looking for reasons to be in your kitchen.
